About the university
Daugavpils Medical College was founded in 1945. It was located in a part of the building at address Varshavas street 26a. It consisted of two class-rooms and basement. At the beginning only 54 students studied here. From 1954 the establishment began teaching not only medical nurses, but doctor’s assistants as well. Tha last graduation was in 1987. The number of students increased gradually and the school building became bigger and bigger. Within the period from 1970 till 1974 a new 3-storeyed building was completed and this was the factor which influenced rapid increasing of students number. The biggest students number was noted in 1987/1988 when 850 students studied at school. Many Daugavpils Medical College graduaters successfully entered medical institutes and gained the profession of doctors and now they work at medical establishments of Daugavpils. Since 2004 the medical school has become Daugavpils Medical College. Nowadays the college realizes three programms of the first higher education level. The total number of students is 300.
