New Era University College

The present campus of New Era University College is situated on a 8.5-acre piece of land located on top of the Hua Qiao Hill at Kajang, Selangor. The campus land originally belonged to Kajang Hua Qiao School. It was occupied by the British army when the British colonial government enacted the Emergency Act in 1948 and was only returned to the school after Malaya’s independence in the 1950s. In 1974, the Hua Qiao School Trustees Board, which was formed by eight registered Chinese associations in Kajang, rented the land to Universiti Merdeka Sdn Bhd, intending for it to be used as the campus of Universiti Merdeka. On 1 October 1989, the Hua Qiao School Trustees Board donated the land to Universiti Merdeka Sdn Bhd for establishing a Chinese tertiary educational institution. The first building completed on this piece of land, the Administration Building of Dong Zong (United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia), was declared open on 19 December 1993. Dong Jiao Zong Higher Learning Centre Bhd officially submitted the application for establishment of New Era College to the Ministry of Education on 27 August 1994. The College was approved by the Ministry of Education on 28 May 1997 and was registered with the Selangor Education Department on 28 October 1997. On 1 March 1998 the first intake of 148 students at New Era College started their courses under three departments: Department of Business Studies, Department of Information Technology and Department of Chinese Language and Literature.
