About the university
In 1992 the Dominicans settled in León, Gto. A center of philosophy studies. Although intended for the students of the Order, from the beginning the center was open to all interested in philosophical studies. In 1996, official recognition of the studies was obtained by the Ministry of Public Education (Agreement No. 962094 of August 29, 1996). Since then the studies corresponding to the degree in philosophy have been carried out in the center. The Center for Philosophical Studies is named after Thomas Aquinas , because this medieval sage is an example of what an intellectual should be in our time. The example may seem too distant. However, the thirteenth century faced problems very similar to the current ones. When Aristotle's thought and vision of the world came to the universities of Europe through Arab commentators, many rejected it in the name of the traditional Christian view. St. Thomas learned to discover in that thought truths with which he achieved a grandiose synthesis between philosophy and faith. Would it not be necessary today to have a synthesis similar to modern systems and the infinite data of the sciences?
