About the university
The Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO) is an autonomous regional intergovernmental organization for Latin America and the Caribbean, dedicated to research, teaching and dissemination of social sciences. It was created on April 16, 1957 on the initiative of UNESCO at the Latin American Conference of Social Sciences in Rio de Janeiro. The initiative to create FLACSO was included in the recommendations of the First Regional Conference on University Education of the Social Sciences of South America, held in Rio de Janeiro in March 1956. It is made up of 18 Member States currently engaged in activities In 13 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
