About the university
The Technological University of Izúcar de Matamoros emerged in 1997 as a response to the growing demand for access to higher education levels in the Mixteca Baja Poblana. It was created by decree published in the Official Gazette of the Government of the State of Puebla on March 6, 1998, as a Decentralized Public Organism, with legal personality and its own assets, derived from the agreement between the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Public Education and the Government of the State of Puebla. The UTIM is located in a region of deep socio-economic contrasts that transits from an eminently rural area to semi-urban and urban centers of population that require the professional development of young people. On September 1, 1997, the 1997-1998 school year began in temporary facilities provided by the President's School Center "Lázaro Cárdenas"; on April 10 of the same year, the first stone was placed in the initial stage of construction on a 20-hectare site, located at Prolongación Reforma No. 168, in the Barrio de Santiago Mihuacán in Izúcar de Matamoros, Puebla. In May 1998, the facilities of the first stage of the project were inaugurated.
