About the university
The municipality of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, founded on June 15, 1848, stood out from its beginnings for its geographical location as a strategic crossing of roads and goods between Mexico and the United States. On August 19, 1855, the Border Customs was established in order to charge tariffs to those who crossed the border. Later, in 1881 with the arrival of the railroad the city became more important, since in addition to customs, Nuevo Laredo was railroad crossing and center of sale of goods when establishing a tax free zone. During the twentieth century, and with the construction of the highway Mexico-Nuevo Laredo, this city became the most important customs point of the Republic; at the crossroads of cargo transport of major importance throughout the country. The inhabitants of the city found sources of work, their personal destiny; and a border port, which over the decades, formed a trade and an important industrial zone, and also, taking advantage of its strategic situation, came to have 52 maquiladoras, which occupied 24 thousand workers at the end of the twentieth century.
