About the university
On November 25, 1967, the President of the Republic and the Minister of Education, by executive decree, authorized the operation of the Polytechnic Institute of Nicaragua (POLI). It was a response of the founding patronage, composed of 17 Baptist personalities who had been integrated as a cultural association, without lucrative and non-proselytizing purpose to carry out such initiative. In order for the plans to reflect a response to the national reality, private sector organizations, Chambers of Commerce and Industries, and the Nicaraguan Development Institute were consulted. The aim was to provide the country with a higher education institution that would prepare short-term intermediate level technicians to help the country's development, opening up opportunities for young people who could not afford a career of five or seven years, but with a degree Senior technicians could raise their incomes and then take on self-financing for a longer career. It was a matter of being quickly incorporated into the productive process of the country; This was something that was reflected as a necessity in national and international surveys, more in the Central American region.
