SPAMAST started in 1966 with one class – the first Year High School named as “Barrio community High School”. On July 5, 1968 through Municipal Resolution No. 80, it became the “Malita Municipal High School” offering a complete secondary curriculum. In 1969, a Marcos–type building with 10 rooms was constructed in a two-hectare lot donated by Mrs. Juanita Vda. De Salmon. On February 8, 1982 through Batas Pambansa Bilang 148, the malita Municipal High School was converted into State College known as the “Malita Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology” (MAMAST; putting the province’s political leader assemblyman Benjamine V. Bautista's dream on education and entrepreneurs into reality in the region with Mr. Ramon M. Barbon as first President. On March 9, 1984, Batas Pambansa Bilang 148 was amended by Batas Pambansa Bilang 651, changing the name of MAMAST to “Southern Philippines Agri-Business Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST)” to expand its scope and interest in the fields of agriculture and fisheries. Since then, SPAMAST has flourished and acquired significant properties that are now sites for the realization of its mission and vission. It has acquired an 8 hectares (20 acres) land in Buhangin, Malita, Digos City which is now the College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS) Campus; properties in Kapoc, Matanao, Kapatagan, Digos City which is now served as satellite campuses for the College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS) and other properties along Malita Campus shorelines.
