About the university
The first attempt to teach agriculture at the university level was made in Poland in the late eighteenth century. In 1776 in Krakow, Fr. Hugo Kołłątaj proposed in the memorandum "On further introduction to the teachings of the Cracow Academy" project to introduce reforms Main Crown School postulate the creation of the Department of Agriculture. Established only in 1806 Cathedral there was very short, because only the year 1809. Later repeated efforts to resume teaching at the Cracow Academy of agriculture were not realized due to difficulties with the Austrian authorities. It was only in 1890 at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University was established 3-year Agricultural College. In 1892, the director of Studies Professor Emil Godlewski; a position he held for 16 years. Thanks to his efforts, was built in the years 1906 - 1910 College Agronomicum, which now bears his name and which houses the Senate and the Rector of the Academy. Study existed until 1923 and grew to 573 graduates. In 1923. It was transformed into the Faculty of Agriculture of the Jagiellonian University.
