About the university
The tradition of education of physical education teachers and instructors of different sports in Katowice dates back 1,952 years. Then it established the Technical School of Physical Education in Katowice (the organizers were Aloysius school Chruszcz and Zdzisław Szumski). It was subsequently converted (1957) in the College of Physical Education Teachers. With this study - based on the Council of Ministers on 1 September 1970. - established College of Physical Education in Katowice. Rector of the newly established university professor was. Lechosław Dec (1970-1975), then doc. Włodzimierz Reczek (1975-1980). In June 1973, within the framework of the WSWF physical education, was established specialty rehabilitation. Specialty was carried out at the Department of Motor Rehabilitation, whose first director was prof. n. med. Krystyna Dobosiewicz, creator of the rehabilitation program in Poland. In 1975, the specialty of rehabilitation has been transformed into an independent field of study, since 1997 bearing the name of "physiotherapy" (Resolution of the Council of Higher Education of 20 March 1997.). In 1979, the College of Physical Education in Katowice was transformed into the Academy of Physical Education in Katowice, from functioning since 1981 the Department of Physical Education. The first rector was Professor of Physical Education. Lechosław Dec (1980-1984). Then this dignity was held by prof. Stanisław Socha (1984-1990), prof. Joachim Raczek (1990-1996), prof. Janusz Nowotny (1996-1999), prof. Wiesław Pilis (1999-2003), prof. Władysław Mynarski (2003-2005), prof. Zbigniew Waśkiewicz (2005-2012), prof. Adam Zając (2012-2016).
