About the university
University College of Health Sciences Slovenj Gradecis an independent private institution for higher education, founded by Slovenj Gradec municipality and the Koroška Centre for Higher Education (KOVIVIS). The college was founded on the 12th May 2009, the International Nurses Day. We are distinguished by excellence in both education and research in health sciences fields. In such short period we have founded the Research Institute and established a research group for the Health sciences field, the Career Centre, we have secured the ERASMUS Charter, and signed numerous bilateral agreements for international cooperation, and established a library for the field of health sciences. We are establishing and managing our own tutoring and mentorship systems. We make individual programmes for every student’s clinical training with content- and time-based training. Students are assigned to clinical mentors, who are employed in the educational institute. The mentor’s duty is to supervise their students, train them, and evaluate them. A habilitated higher education teacher is responsible for a quality mentorship and training process. UCHS Slovenj Gradec has clearly defined duties, for which the mentor is responsible, and duties, for which the teacher is responsible. Clinical training is defined in the EU directive, to which we are bound with the accredited study programme. The college has signed annual contracts with educational institutions for cooperation in clinical training. For carrying out these activities our college is developing teachers and their associates, who, in turn bring innovation, modern teaching methods (e.g. simulations, virtual reality, distance learning, evidence-based nursing – EBN, problem-based learning - PBL), and research into their work.
