About the university
The University of La Manouba (Arabic: جامعة منوبة) is a Tunisian university based in La Manouba. It is ranked by the U.S. News & World Report at the 84th rank of the regional ranking 2016 of the Arab universities. The Faculty of Letters, Arts and Humanities is affected by a protest movement, when some 30 Salafist youngsters, mostly foreigners to the establishment according to the direction, settles on November 28, 2011 in the premises to claim the Right to wearing the niqab, in class and during examinations, And the creation of a place to pray. In the face of mounting tensions, the Scientific Council decided to close the faculty on December 6, and to send some 8,000 students home for security reasons. About 200 French academics and researchers signed a letter to show their support to their Tunisian counterparts who were victims of violence.
