About the university
The Kiev Gliere Institute of Music (Ukr. Kiivskyi Music Institute of RM Gliere) is the first professional musical educational institution in Ukraine. It was opened on January 21, 1868 at the Kiev branch of the Imperial Russian Musical Society with the purpose of training musicians performing for the musical groups and organizations of the city - the Kyiv Opera, orchestras, etc. On this day the school building was consecrated and classes began.
