About the university
The Alexandria University logo contains the lighthouse or lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It was built in 280 BC on the island of Pharos at the entrance to the eastern port of Alexandria during the reign of Ptolemy II. Al Fanar consists of four sections. The first is a square base, with many windows, with about 300 rooms, equipped for technicians operating the lighthouse and their families. The second floor was octagonal and the third circular. At the top of the lantern is a large lamp on three pillars, topped by a statue of the sea god Poseidon. Al-Fanar was about 120 meters tall, built of limestone, with granite columns decorated with marble and bronze. It was completely destroyed in the 14th century after a major earthquake. It is believed that Qaitbay Castle was built on the site of the ancient Alexandria lighthouse.
