About the university
University of Iringa (UoI), formerly a constituent college of the Tumaini University, has started the academic year 2013–2014 as an autonomous fully fledged university, accredited by Tanzania Comission for Universities. The vision of the University of Iringa is to be a leading university that produces ethical, competitive and entrepreneurial leaders. University is planning to expand its activities outside Iringa, offering study programmes also in other locations. Also the community outreach services of the university will be further strengthened. History of the University of Iringa dates back to 1994. It was originally founded as Iringa Lutheran College and Seminary. Since 1997 it has been operating under the Tumaini umbrella, and known with the name of Tumaini University, Iringa University College (IUCo). Over the years, the fields of study provided by IUCo have gradually expanded to cover a whole range of disciplines and professions. The University of Iringa currently has six faculties, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Business, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Science and Education, Faculty of Theology and Faculty of Counselling and Psychology. They offer undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, as well as shorter diploma and certificate programmes.
