The Higher Institute of Physical Education is a public, secular and free institution, which as of 2006 is dependent on the Central Board of the University of the Republic , which is autonomous and co-governed. As a university institution, it is guided by the Organic Law which stipulates that the maximum body of the service is its Council or Board of Directors. The Steering Committee , as the ISEF is a co-governed service is made up of students, graduates, teachers and the director, who have voice and vote in all decisions.
