Academy of the Interior Ministry of the Republic of Belarus

The history of the educational establishment takes its beginning from the moment of creation of the unit of the Distance Learning faculty of the MPOP RSFSR in Minsk. On May 16, 1958 the unit trained the specialists with a higher law education for the bodies of the Ministries of internal affairs of Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Smolensk, Briansk, Kaliningrad regions of RSFSR. In 1958 75 listeners were enlisted on the first course. In Minsk unit at the first year there were studying about 120 men, including the interior service officers, who removed from Leningrad to Minsk. In 5 years the admission was 200 people. The unit activity approved expedience of taken direction of training the specialists with higher law education in the Republic: law enforcement system got the hundreds qualified specialists. The basement of the Academy successful activity was set. Over the time it became clear that further development of institutional education is very important, especially training of the staff with higher law education on the base of full-time training for the bodies of public order prevention. In the frames of the initiative announced by the Republic of Belarus on March 5, 2007 in New York at the International Conference of the United Nations the International training center on migration and combating trafficking in human beings was created at the Academy of MIA. The official opening ceremony was held on July 19, 2007. The Academy of MIA of the Republic of Belarus takes its place amongst the governmental bodies, the complex mechanism of decision-making process. The scientists of the Academy are members of a number of boards and committees (advisory, expert, working, etc.) on the legal problems created by the higher authorities of the Republic of Belarus. They are involved in the activities of various ministries and departments. Many scholars of the Academy participated in the drafting of the Constitution, the Criminal, Criminal Procedure, the Penal, Civil Procedure, Labor, and other codes of the Republic of Belarus, as well as in the drafting of many laws, government programs, rules regulations and other documents of the Republic of Belarus. History of the Academy is an example of professional and competent resolving of many complex and important tasks by the authorities and the staff of the Academy at different stages of its development.
