About the university
The history of the CEGEP is very similar to what happened in the evolution of CEGEPs and Classical Colleges in the province of Quebec, and it was also the subject of a learned work by Marie-Paule Malouin , Historian and sociologist by profession. It was in 1950 that was founded the Externat classic of Longueuil , supposed to serve all the South Shore. Its construction has received financial and moral support from Paul Pratt , Longueuil Mayor at the time, and M gr Forget the Bishop of Saint John. Another major support is added to the Externat classique of Longueuil in the person of Father Bernard de Brienne , ofm. View of Cégep Édouard-Montpetit. At the beginning, there was only a classical education, with the Latin Elements, the Belles-lettres and the Philosophy for the boys of 13 to 20 years. Some commentators lamented the lack of scientific training offered to these young people. In the early 1960s, the teaching of Greek was abandoned and girls were admitted. In the late 1960s, mixed lay people became more numerous in teaching than the Franciscan brothers.
