About the university
The Catholic University of the North (until 1990, University of the North) was founded on May 31, 1956 by the Company of Jesus, thanks to a testamentary assignment of Berta Gonzalez Moreno, widow of Astorga, as School of Pedagogy and Engineering under the wing Of the then Catholic University of Valparaiso. It began its classes 25 of March of 1957 counting on a matriculation of 100 students and 20 teachers. Its autonomy as a university was recognized by the State on February 4, 1964, by Law no. 15,561, becoming part of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities, such as the eighth university created in Chile and the third Catholic university in the country .
