About the university
The University of Parakou is the second Benin State University. It was created in 2001 by Decree N ° 2001-365 of 18 September of the same year. This Decree was supplemented by Order No. 2001- 091 / MESRS / DC / SG / SP of 19 October 2001 defining its organization and operation. These two administrative acts make the University of Parakou a public institution of higher education, endowed with legal personality and administrative and financial autonomy. Its creation meets the need to equip Benin with a second pole of excellence in academic scientific education technological and professional. On the other hand, it is relieving congestion of the National University of Benin, which has since become the University of Abomey-Calavi, which was no longer able to manage a growing number of staff, a large part of which came from localities in the Center and North of the country. The University of Parakou is made up of seven (07) university centers: the university centers of Parakou, Djougou, Tchaourou, Savè, Kandi, Gogounou and Natitingou.
