About the university
The present Faculty Jean-Calvin is the heiress of a first Faculty of Protestant theology of the Independent Evangelical Reformed Churches (UNEPREF today). Between the years 1940 and 1960, it formed the reformed evangelical pastors. After the closure of this establishment, the vision of creating a new reformed faculty, Serving all Francophone churches, is born. Partially supported by Pastors Tholozan and Boyer, the project finds support in the United States in the person of Professor Ed Clowney of Westminster Theological Seminary. Paul Wells, François Gonin, Eugene Boyer and Peter Jones make up the first faculty, During the academic year of 1973. In June 1974, Pierre Courthial joined them. The Free Faculty of Reformed Theology was inaugurated on 13 and 14 October 1974 under the presidency of Pierre Filhol.
