University of Western Brittany

The University of Western Brittany (official name: University of Brest, abbreviated UBO) is a multidisciplinary French university located in the department of Finistère and the Brittany region. It is located mainly in Brest, Quimper on the Pierre-Jakez-Hélias university pole, and in Morlaix. As a support institution for the Ecole Supérieure du Professat et de l'Education in Brittany, it has offices in Rennes, Vannes and Saint-Brieuc. It is one of the four universities of the Rennesn Academy. It was created in 1971 from several components of the University of Rennes, established in Brest from the end of the 1950s following the activities of the study and liaison committee of Breton interests. The institution is part of the research and higher education center of the European University of Brittany when it was founded in 2007, and has acquired the responsibilities and powers extended in 2010. The institution provides 17,413 students with training in the fields of language arts, law-economics-management, humanities and social sciences, and health sciences-technology. Its research activities are carried out by some 1,350 research personnel and 719 teacher-researchers and are structured around four divisions: "marine sciences", "agri-food health", "math-STIC-material" and "sciences Human and social rights ".
