About the university
The Institut Universitaire Saint-Pie X opened its doors at the beginning of the academic year of 1980, in the presence of Bishop Lefebvre. The chapel was then served by Canon PONCELET. Father Alain LORANS, first rector, led the work until 1983. Father Michel SIMOULIN succeeded him from 1983 to 1988. Father Alain LORANS found the Institute in 1988 and headed it until 2002. Abbé Christian THOUVENOT was a professor from 2000 to 2002, then rector of the Institute from 2002 to 2008 Abbé Philippe BOURRAT has been a professor since 2002 and was rector from 2008 to 2010. Abbé François-Marie CHAUTARD has been a professor since 2005 and rector since August 15, 2010. The Institute trains students with a bachelor's degree in the following fields: - PHILOSOPHY ; - HUMANITIES; - HISTORY. It allows the acquisition of the diplomas of State (license for the courses "history" and "Classics" / "Humanities") and proposes a training of the MASTERS and a LEGAL INITIATION integrated in the university course. Since September 25, 2001, a decree of the Rectorate of Paris recognizes to the Institute its pedagogical autonomy and the specificity of its teaching. The last rectoral order is dated June 1, 2015 and applies to the 2015 review sessions.
