In the twentieth century the world is colored with many amazing advances that have been created by mankind both in the field of science and technology. In response to the conditions of the times mentioned above, on 30 June 1979 a foundation was established under the name of Yayasan Pendidikan Widya Bakti, which aims to develop and disseminate informatics and computer technology among Indonesian society through systematic and scientific education effort. The foundation runs an academy called Academy of Computer Applications, abbreviated as AKAKOM. Starting from March 1, 1983, the Academy of Computer Applications (AKAKOM), changed to AKAKOM Computer and Informatics Academy. Then starting on May 2, 1985, the name of AKAKOM Computer and Informatics Academy was changed and standardized to Academy of Informatics and Computer Management (AMIK) AKAKOM. In order to make the institution able to produce professional and academic staffs that are more proficient in the field of informatics and computers, since June 8, 1992, based on the Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture No. 262 / DIKTI / Kep / 1992, AMIK AKAKOM Transformed into High School of Informatics and Computer Management (STMIK) AKAKOM which opened undergraduate programs and diploma programs. Currently undergraduate program has stusi program of Informatics Engineering and Information System with B accreditation status and on diploma program have 3 study program that is Information Management (B Accreditation status), Computer Engineering (B accreditation status), and Computerized Accounting (B Accreditation status).
