About the university
The Lucio Campiani Conservatory is a major institute of music studies founded in Mantua in 1777. In 1777 the first Mantua Music School was born. The official act which he instituted was the Regio Dispaccio of Maria Teresa of Austria of January 2, 1777. After the thirty-year course of Master Mattia Milani, teaching continued with private teachers until 1834 when a new popular music school With three distinct sections: Singing, Artificial Instruments and Wind Instruments. As the venue was chosen the Palace of the Academy that would host the music schools in its various forms until 2012. The public institutions returned to deal with the Municipal Congregation that on November 26, 1864 set up the Municipal School of Music whose operation, after three years under the Virgilian Academy, was secured by the municipality of Mantua. The City Council on 18 August 1925 devoted the Municipal School of Music to the master Lucio Campiani, of which he was the first director until October 1, 1905. The ancient mantovian musical institution in 1972 acquired the prestigious title of the State Conservatory at first as a detached home of Conservatory of Music "Arrigo Boito" of Parma. Autonomy was recognized at the Conservatory of Mantua since 1980.
