About the university

The building hosting the Conservatory was built in 1928 as a Liceo Musicale project by the Municipal Technical Office of Architect Giovanni Battista Ricci. The Piedmont Neo-Baroque façade tends to monumentalize the nineteenth-century Bodoni square. The "Giuseppe Verdi" Regional Music Conservatory in Turin was founded on February 13, 1936 when the pre-existing "Giuseppe Verdi Music Institute", born in 1866 as the "Music Institute of the City of Turin", was raised to the rank of school qualified to To issue official degrees of diploma in the musical profession. Unlike the classic façade language, the interior is characterized by exquisite eclectic decorations, which tend towards the liberty of the atrium, the foyer and the Concert Hall. The latter is considered to be the best acoustic environment of the city and is equipped with a concert organ inaugurated on May 10, 1933. After the war in this room the Rai orchestra here held its concerts until 1952 with directors like Wilhelm Furtwängler, singers Such as Elizabeth Schwartzkopf and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. After a fire in 1984 the hall was closed for many years, the last restoration dates back to 2006.
