Born in 1967 as a detached section of the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia, the Institute obtained the year after its legal recognition and full autonomy didactic, taking the name of Alfredo Casella, one of the protagonists of the Italian musical renewal, founder with D'Annunzio and Malipiero of the Guild of New Music, the Italian section of the International Society for Contemporary Music.
