About the university
Instituto Tecnológico de Mérida is a public institution of higher education located in the north of the city of Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. Its creation was promoted and impelled by diverse personages and local and federal institutions. Among the former, Professor Pastor Ramírez Coello, engineer Manuel Mier and Terán, and Professor Hernán Morales Medina are told. The Institute began operations in September 1961, being governor of the state of Yucatan Agustín Franco Aguilar, in facilities built on lands ceded by the ejido of Chuburná de Hidalgo, in the municipality of Mérida. Its financing was made through a tripartite agreement of the Federal Government, State Government and the private initiative. Four months later, on January 18, 1962, the institute was officially inaugurated by then-President of Mexico Adolfo López Mateos. At the moment the direction of this academic institution is in charge of the MC Abel Zapata Dittrich.
