About the university
PICO was established in 1998, on the recommendations of WHO, as a joint project through partnership between Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and International Centre for Eye Health (ICEH) London, (UK). The institute is also financially and technically supported by Sightsavers (UK), CBM (Germany), Light For the World (LFW) (Austria), Fred Hollows Foundation (Australia) and Brien Holden Vision Institute (Australia). Pakistan Institute of Community Ophthalmology (PICO) is an autonomous institute working under the Medical Health Institutions Ordinance (2002). It is situated in Hayatabad Medical Complex. It is headed by Dean who works under the Institutional Management Council (IMC) of Hayatabad Medical Complex. The Dean is helped by Deputy Dean, other senior Faculty members and non faculty members of the institute and an academic council.
