Two types of subjects can be distinguished within the studies framework. The first are general subjects depicting society and its evolution (this includes the history of the state and law, Roman law, history of political and legal doctrines, sociology, economics, political science), and against this background the individual (classes in psychology, psychiatry, ethics serves this purpose). The aim of teaching the above subjects is to teach the students that legal norms are the regulators of social life and must meet the needs of society as a whole, individuals and collective entities – at a certain stage of social development. The basic core of the courses consists of dogmatic subjects, thanks to which the student is able to understand legal texts and interpret them in accordance with the achievements of science in this field and the principle of pro-EU interpretation (to the extent that it is valid). Thanks to including into the curriculum the specificity of norms belonging to particular fields of law, a graduate is prepared to use various norms, has a good command of law and legal language. In the course of studies, a student acquires knowledge of the basic branches of the Polish law, the law established by the European Union and fundamental acts of international law. Graduates not only have the knowledge of legal norms, but thanks to an appropriate profile of the educational process, they are also characterised by advanced skills of relating them to actual states of affairs, developing arguments to justify a particular standpoint, and formulating judgments regarding the quality of legal states of affairs. The educational process is constructed in such a way so as to teach the student to independently use the literature and legal theory when constructing a position on a specific case, as well as to conduct polemics in accordance with the requirements arising from the adversarial nature of a trial. Graduates are equipped with an awareness of the complexity of the normative matter. Such a result is achieved by introducing a wide range of classes of an authorial character, showing an individual approach to an issue and the results of research not yet included in the textbook content. The knowledge of foreign languages is also important in the whole range of skills that are crucial for further professional development; therefore, the students graduate with B2 level proficiency of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages in a chosen language, accompanied by the knowledge of legal terms in that language. The level of theoretical knowledge and practical skills the students acquire during the studies is supposed to enable a graduate (depending on the choice of the career path) both to continue education within the doctoral studies and to gain authorisation within the application, as well as to start an independent professional work in public and non-public institutions and organisations.
