About the university
The State Higher Vocational School in Płock is the first independent state university in the history of the city. It was founded on the basis of two colleges: the Teachers' College of Foreign Languages and the College of Teachers, which operated in Płock in the years 1990-2000. The University was launched on the basis of the Regulation of the Council of Ministers of June 15, 1999 (Journal of Laws No. 55, item 577). As the first Rector, Minister of National Education Mirosław Handke appointed prof. zw. dr. hab. Kazimierz Włodarczyk, who performed his duties in the first year of operation of the University. The first inauguration of the academic year was held on October 7, 1999. During the sitting of the Senate, September 26, 2000, the first organizational units - the Institute of Neo-Philosophy, Pedagogy, Mathematics and Computer Science and the University Library, the University Publishing House and the Office of Student Internships were established at the PWSZ in Płock. In the next academic year (2001/2002), in connection with launching "economic" specialization of education, a fourth Institute - Institute of Economic Sciences was established at the University. In this academic year, further interinstitutional units were established: the Study of Practical Foreign Language Teaching, the Physical Education and Sport Study, and the Computer Science.
