About the university
The Faculty of Theology of Granada is a private university teaching center belonging to the Catholic Church, created in 1939 and dependent on the Society of Jesus. It has its headquarters in the University campus of Cartuja de Granada and its aims are the investigation and teaching of Theology and other related sciences. It can confer academic degrees in these matters with authority of the Holy See. Established in 1544 by the Society of Jesus in Granada, and in the center of formation for students of the Company created in 1894 in the vicinity of the monastery of Cartuja of the same locality, was founded in 1939 Under the influence of the Archbishop of Granada, Cardinal Parrado, who had been requesting from Rome the creation of a training center for the priests of the Archdiocese some years ago.
