About the university
The Faculty of Sciences of Tunis (in its true name the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences, Physics and Natural Sciences) was founded in 1960 in the premises of the Institute of Higher Studies of Tunis. These premises included a main building at the corner of souk-Ahras and Rome streets (formerly an Italian school), an annex (formerly the Radio-Tunis building) located at the Place de l'Ecole Israélite (currently Place Ali Zouaoui ) And another located at 1 avenue de France (former mess of the French army). These premises were located in the center of Tunis, close to Tunis SNCFT railway station, TGM terminus, bus and tram stations, Marché Central, the entrance to the Medina The Porte de France) and the cultural centers of Tunis. It was by Decree No. 98 of 31 March 1960 that the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis (FST) was founded, the first nucleus of the scientific higher education of independent Tunisia. In 1968, the FST began a gradual transfer, which lasted until 1972, to its current premises, located on the Belvédère university campus (currently El Manar). Its former premises were ceded to the newspapers "El Amal and L'Action", organs of the Socialist Destourien Party, CNUDEST, the Documentation Center, etc.
