About the university
In the Ministry of Health of Ukraine as one of the leading medical schools are Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education. Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education was established by the order of People's Commissariat of Health of Ukraine of 11.10.1923 p. Originally it was called: Kharkiv Clinical Institute for Advanced Medical, later, since 1927 - Ukrainian Central Institute of Advanced Medical. The first director of the Institute was appointed Professor I. Finkelstein. Under his leadership, was organized following departments: surgery (Prof. F. J. Rose), topographical anatomy and operative surgery (Prof. A. Melnikov), Obstetrics and Gynecology (Prof. A. Mamutov - obstetrics, EG Shcherbyna - GYN) care (Prof. A. Hehtman), pediatrics (Prof. S. Yampolsky) and general and environmental hygiene (head sanitary and economic sector Commissariat AM Marzeev).
