Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute

In autumn 1870 the Ministry of Finance instructed Training Committee of the St. Petersburg Institute of Technology to prepare materials for the organization of the new university in St. Petersburg modeled with local and opportunities. December 25 from Petersburg in Kharkov arrived the professors of the Institute Vyshnegradsky IA and NP Ilin for determination of conditions of construction of the new Institute. 30 January 1871 meeting of Kharkov city society discussed the construction of the Institute of Technology; it was decided to donate the means for the organization of society and institute land purchase 50 thousand rubles. Responsibility for the conduct surveillance facilities institution assigned to Kharkov building committee, which included the author of RR Henrihsen and provincial engineer V. Potresov. 1885 April 16 royal government approved the provision according to which began to function the Kharkov practical technological institute (second after Petersburg). July 3 was appointed director of the institute known Russian scientist VL Kyrpichov (served in that post until January 30, 1898). In August, was made the first intake of students - 125 85 - for mechanical and 40 - for chemical separation. Tuition fees was 50 rubles a year. September 15, the official opening of the Kharkov practical Institute of Technology. On the initiative of teachers Institute of Technology in Ukraine created South-Russian society of technologists, which played an important role in the development of industry.
