About the university
80-year history of Yerevan State University of Languages and Social Sciences. V. Bryusov originates from February 4, 1935. On this day, the Central Committee of the Armenian Communist Party decides to set up a two-year pedagogical institute in Yerevan on February 15 to train Russian language teachers. The first director was appointed M. Sheukova. Five years later, in 1940, the decision was made to reorganize the two-year institute into the State Pedagogical Institute. In February 1941, in order to provide foreign language specialists in schools, the institute opens two-year courses of foreign languages (German, French, English).
