About the university
YSITC was established in 1944 as Yerevan State Institute of Theatrical Arts, since 1952 Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Fine Arts, since 1994 Yerevan State Institute of Theatrical Arts, since 1999 Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography. Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography was founded in 1944. At its founding, the Institute had three departments: Acting, Directing, Drama Studies. In 1999 the professional direction of the Institute was expanded and subsequently it was renamed State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography. At present the education is carried out according to the following 9 specialities and several specializations: Art of Acting (actor of the dramatic theatre, actor of the musical theatre, actor of the pantomime theatre, actor of the puppet theatre, actor of variety and circus, television announcer), Directing (drama theatre directing, musical theatre directing, variety and public celebrations directing), Cinematographic Art (feature film directing, documentary film directing, animation directing, television directing, sound directing), Drama Studies, Literary Work, Cinematography, Painting(set design, film and television set design, animation design), Socio-Cultural Activities (arts management).
