About the university
The Université Chrétienne Bilingue du Congo (UCBC) offers a variety of degree programs taught in English and French, giving students access to a broad spectrum of academic resources from both major traditions. Founded in 2007, the University integrates academic rigor with theological reflection to target the demands of re-constructing institutional frameworks in the Democratic Republic of Congo.Located in North Kivu Province, UCBC provides opportunity for undergraduate study into social realities that shape the region. UCBC offers diverse courses of study across the natural sciences, social sciences and the humanities. The Université Chrétienne Bilingue du Congo is organized around the principles of academic inquiry, community engagement, and institutional service. Its pedagogical approach breaks from lecture-based models that largely characterize higher education in Africa. The university encourages classroom participation, personal engagement with academic material and critical reflection on social realities in light of a student's course of study. From this approach, UCBC brings academic reflection to meet the particular needs of the broader population. UCBC offers students a wide range of courses throughout the major fields of Applied Sciences, Communication, Economic Sciences and Theology. The University is in the planning stages of commencing its Faculty of Arts.UCBC emphasizes a collaborative learning environment, encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue and student participation in extra-curricular academic opportunities. Students engage in field research from an early stage in their coursework and take advantage of discussion groups and research assistant opportunities. UCBC is also home to two university-wide institutes: the Language Institute and the Institute for Integrative Research.
