About the university
The Silesian University in Opava (Slezská univerzita v Opavě) is a university offering tertiary education and having public legal status (in Czech only). It was established by the law (Nr. 314/1991 - in Czech only) passed by the Czech National Council on July 9, 1991. In 1999 the Mathematical Institute in Opava was established after its separation from the Faculty of Philosophy and Science, and in 2008 several other institutes were separated from the same faculty and the Faculty of Public Policies in Opava was created. In 2011 the total number of the students was more than 9000 involved in approximately 50 study programmes. Slezská univerzita v Opavě / Silesian University in Opava, Czech Republic, has participated in the Erasmus Programme since 1999. The number of students and employees participating in the Erasmus Programme is increasing every year.
