The aim of the Bachelor’s degree programme in Applied Informatics is to educate IT specialists capable of successful performance in practice. Applied Informatics is a promising field both in the Czech Republic and in the world, and there has been a high demand for workers from among its graduates, with the highest starting salaries. Application-oriented studies in informatics combine high-quality theoretical knowledge education with practical skills. The Bachelor’s degree programme in Applied Informatics is focused on the areas of informatics, programming, information systems and software engineering. The graduate has high-quality knowledge of modern information technologies and systems, such as development environments for programmers, web applications or database servers, and learns how to participate in the development of these technologies and systems and to apply these technologies and systems. The graduate acquires algorithmic, analytical, creative and systemic thinking, and project team work and leadership skills, learns presentation and communication skills and masters English at the level of expert communication (in a six-semester course). Competitive advantage is the knowledge and operational excellence of the graduate, capable of professional versatility in the field of ICT and systems, flexibility in technological advancement and adaptability to the requirements of informatics practice. The graduate profile corresponds to the broad application of graduates in ICT companies, IT departments and data centres of economic organizations, public administration organizations and others, including international corporations and foreign institutions; a separate entrepreneurial activity in IS/ICT is also possible. Relevant characteristic professions include: analyst programmer, infrastructure manager, systems integrator, information systems and database manager, application and systems developer and tester, ICT and systems consultant, security specialist, ICT entrepreneur. Moreover, the study fully covers the prerequisites of the follow-up Master’s degree programme.
