About the university
Gerardo Barrios University (UGB) was founded on December 5, 1981 in the historic center of the city of San Miguel in El Salvador. Its headquarters were located in the house where Juan José Cañas was born, composer of the lyrics of the National Anthem of El Salvador. The university came up with the motto: "Towards professional, human, responsible and up-to-date training" and started its educational activities with four faculties and eight careers in 1982 in the city of San Miguel; In 1986 the Regional Center of Usulután was opened with nine races. The UGB in the first ten years of its history offered eleven races. In 1988 the university advances to the digital age and acquires the first computers that allowed to provide an updated educational service and represented a significant growth in the student enrollment, of 270 that entered in 1982 increased to 989 students in 1990, being able to graduate 342 professionals who Gave a great impetus to the region.
