About the university
The Catholic University of El Salvador, UNICAES, whose Head Office is located in the city of Santa Ana, and a Regional Center in Ilobasco, El Salvador, was founded on April 13, 1982, according to the Constitutional Act. The purpose of the Catholic University of El Salvador is to train professionals with integrity, conscientious possession of knowledge and moral stature, to encourage them to serve honestly and effectively the country and its fellow human beings. The University by foundation, history and practice, is related to the Diocese of Santa Ana, which is part of the Catholic Church. The fact that his Holiness John Paul II, dated December 18, 1982, through the Sacred Congregation for Catholic University Education, approved the founding of the Catholic University of the West, now the Catholic University of El Salvador, which Is entrusted juridically to the Bishop of the Diocese of Santa Ana, determines the Catholic identity of the University. His statutes state: "The Bishop of the Diocese of Santa Ana will be Rector of the University, he will propose the members of the Board of Directors to the Episcopal Conference of El Salvador for approval ..." (Article 24 of the University's statutes ).
