About the university
Die Philosophisch-Theologische Hochschule SVD St. Augustin im Missionspriesterseminar der Steyler Missionare in Sankt Augustin bei Bonn ist eine staatlich und kirchlich anerkannte Hochschule mit Promotionsrecht in Trägerschaft der Steyler Missionare (SVD, lat.: Societas Verbi Divini, dt.: Gesellschaft des göttlichen Wortes). Die Anfänge der Hochschule gehen auf das Jahr 1925 zurück. Damals nahmen die ersten Priesteramtskandidaten des Ordens das Philosophiestudium an der Hochschule auf. 1932 schloss sich das Theologiestudium im engeren Sinne an. Seit den 1970er Jahren ist die Hochschule auch für nicht ordensangehörige Studierende geöffnet. Die staatliche Anerkennung der Hochschule erfolgte 1983. Ob die Steyler Missionare die Hochschule weiterhin werden tragen können oder nicht, wird seit Ende 2015 ordensintern diskutiert. Der ordentliche Betrieb der Hochschule ist von der Diskussion unberührt, es werden auch weiterhin Studierende immatrikuliert.
