About the university
Hochschule Geisenheim University was founded on 1st January 2013 as a "New Type" Hochschule, following a concept appraisal by the German Council of Science and Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat). The new university is a result of the merger between the Geisenheim Research Institute (Forschungsanstalt Geisenheim) and the Geisenheim faculty of the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences, and has its roots in the "Royal Prussian Institute of Pomology and Viticulture" which was founded in 1872 by Eduard von Lade, a wealthy citizen of Geisenheim. Currently there are about 1350 students using of the wide range of opportunities offered by the Geisenheim campus to gain a practice-oriented bachelor’s degree in the following disciplines: "Weinbau und Oenologie" (Viticulture and Enology) "Internationale Weinwirtschaft" (International Wine Business), "International Wine Business" (taught in English), "Getränketechnologie" (Beverage Technology), "Gartenbau" (Horticulture) and "Landschaftsarchitektur" (Landscape Architecture), or to complete a research-based master’s degree.
