About the university

The Centro Universitario de Oriente (CUNORI) was founded in 1977 with headquarters in the city of Chiquimula and with coverage in the region formed by the departments of El Progreso, Izabal, Zacapa, and Chiquimula. The Centro Universitario de Oriente is an academic unit of the University of San Carlos of Guatemala, and has the same category as faculties or facultative schools. Therefore, it is not university extension nor depends on any faculty, although it does maintain constant communication, and there are cooperation agreements, in order to maintain the same standards of quality, and in many occasions joint activities are carried out. In that order of ideas, functionally depends on the University High Council and the Rectory, as the highest governing bodies of the University of San Carlos of Guatemala.
