About the university
The history of STEP goes back to 1942, when Pastor Florentino Dolores Toirac, a Cuban national who had settled in Haiti since 1937, opened a biblical institute in Gonaives. Pastor Toirac worked in collaboration with a foreign Mission called " World Christian Crusade ". This school was temporarily transferred to Martissant in January 1944. Two years later, it settled in its definitive premises, a building built not far from fort Wednesday thanks to the dynamism of Pastor Toirac. Meanwhile, in 1943, Pastors Alexander Mersdorf and Isaac Etienne founded a biblical institute in Port-de-Paix under the auspices of the Evangelical Baptist Mission of Haiti, which had affiliated with a missionary organization called Unevangelized Fields Mission . This institute held its first graduation in 1947. In 1949, the two foreign missions, World Christian Crusade and Unevangelized Fields Mission , merged. The name UFM was retained. This merger of the two Missions also led to the merger of the two biblical institutes to form the "Evangelical School of the Bible" (EEB) in Port-au-Prince. The first graduation ceremony took place on April 25, 1952.
