About the university
Its origins go back to the 1820s , with the establishment of faculties of medicine and law. In 1942 , the different faculties are gathered in the University of Haiti . After student movements in 1960 , François Duvalier's government exercised greater control over the university and renamed it "State University of Haiti". In 1983 , the university became an independent institution according to the Haitian constitution. This status will be confirmed by Article 208, Title VI, Chapter V of the 1987 Constitution. In 1981, the university had 4,099 students, 26% of whom were in the Faculty of Law and Economics, 25% in the Faculty of Medicine, 17% in the Faculty of Administration and Management, and 11% in the Faculty of Law and Economics. science faculty. Only 5% of the students were in the Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary Sciences, despite the country profiles. In the same year, the university had 559 teachers, as against 207 in 1967 .
