Sheik-Yusuf Islam University (UNIS) Tangerang is College First established in Tangerang, established on 14 April 1966 and is one of the pioneers of Islamic higher education in Banten. The name of Sheik-Yusuf that bear the name of the University history briefly as follows: Shaykh-Joseph is a scholar as well as a fighter. Thanks to his services, he was given the title of national hero by the state. Shaykh-Joseph was born on July 3, 1626 in Lakiung Makassar. His father was Sultan Alauddin Raja of Gowa to 14 (1593-1693), while his mother was Siti Aminah, the daughter of a headman. At the age of 18, Sheikh-Joseph has been migrated to other regions, leaving the kingdom of Gowa. Over the past 5 years, Sheikh-Joseph settled in Banten to study religion. To add to his knowledge, he then migrated to the land of Yemen to demand science-Abi Tarekat to Sheikh Abdullah. As a young man whose thirst for knowledge, Sheik-Yusuf then continued his studies in several cities in the Arab world for more than 15 years. During the colony, Sheik-Yusuf known as a scholar wise. Yusuf Sheikh-name fame then known by the Sultan of Banten, Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa. In 1664, the Sheikh-Joseph was called by Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa to teach sons and daughters of the Sultan of Banten. Sultan later married his daughter named Syarifah by Shaykh-Joseph. Decades ago, precisely in 1682, the Dutch invaded Banten. From the raid, Netherlands capture the Sultan. Shaykh-Joseph, who was already appointed as Duke then continue the struggle against the Dutch colonialists Sultan, and directly lead the struggle. The spirit of heroism and tenacity Sheik-Yusuf in the struggle for independence so greatly feared by the Netherlands. And in order to conquer it, the Dutch had to seek various ways. One of them, carried off the daughter of Sheik-Yusuf named Asma to be held hostage. Of Asthma, The Netherlands finally know the hiding place of Sheikh-Joseph. A fierce battle between the forces of Sheikh-Joseph and Dutch colonial forces were large enough and historic place in Citanduy River Estuary. Of the fighting, the Sheik-Yusuf defeated the Netherlands because the forces are not balanced. Shaykh-Joseph was forced to give up, he and the members of his family and thrown into Seylon (Sri Lanka). This battle took place on December 15, 1683. In landfills, Syekh- Joseph continues to struggle to develop the greatness of Islam and against Dutch colonialism. In 1694 Sheikh-Joseph moved to South Africa with 49 family members and followers. Shaykh-Yusuf wafat in the South of Africa in 1699, but later moved to Napier and his skeleton was buried in his homeland, Lakiung village, Gowa, South Sulawesi.
