About the university
Muhammadiyah University Prof. Dr. Hamka (UHAMKA) is one of the private universities in Jakarta , which is one of the networks of Muhammadiyah Universities in Indonesia. The university was established since 18 November 1957, or coinciding with 25 Rabiul Awal 1377 Hijri. At the time of its establishment, this educational institution was named Teacher Education College (PTPG). The founders include Arso Sosroatmojo as Chairman and HS Prodjokusumo as Secretary. In 1958, PTPG changed its name to Faculty of Teacher Training and Education University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta (FKIP UMJ). In 1965, FKIP UMJ obtained permission from the government to stand alone under the name IKIP Muhammadiyah Jakarta (IKIP MJ). Conversion to UHAMKA occurred in 1997, precisely based on SK Dirjen Dikti Depdikbud . 138 / DIKTI / KEp.1997, dated May 30, 1997.
