About the university
niversitas Muhammadiyah Tapanuli Selatan didirikan pada tanggal 15 Juli 1983. Semula, tahun 1983, lembaga pendidikan ini hanyalah "kelas jauh" dari Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara. Ketika itu ada dua fakultas: Fakultas Keguruan Jurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia dan Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Politik Jurusan Ilmu Administrasi Negara. Dua tahun kemudian, "kelas jauh" itu berdiri sendiri menjadi Sekolah Tinggi Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (STKIP) Muhammadiyah dan Sekolah Tinggi Sosial dan Politik Muhammadiyah. Ditambah Sekolah Tinggi Hukum Muhammadiyah. Pada akhir 1986, ketiga sekolah tinggi tersebut dilebur menjadi Universitas Muhammadiyah dengan menambah Fakultas Pertanian dan Fakultas Peternakan.
